Snowy blast

The Weather Lab Weatherball is blinking to beat the band today!

Welcome to what appears to be the biggest snow in the Metro since Christmas.

A fast moving, hard hitting snow storm slamming the Upper Midwest today is bringing snow. Enough warm air is mixing in to bring sleet and ice to southern Minnesota and parts of western Wisconsin.

The metro appears to be in line for the heaviest snow band, with 3 to 6 inches possible. Some isolated amounts over 6 inches can be expected, especially if the trend for thunder snow continues to unfold. These "convective snow bursts" can produce snowfall rates in excess of 1 to 2 inches per hour.
