Suite of computer models Friday morning clustering on the Gulf coast
All weather eyes will be on Gustav this weekend.
If the current track and intensity forecasts hold, we may be looking at a major weather and news event early next week along the Gulf coast. Conditions in the path of Gustav favor a rapid intensification this weekend. Warm ocean waters and little shear should allow Gustav to reach major hurricane strength. The official NHC forecast call for a Category 3 hurricane with winds of 125 mph by Monday, but even NHC discussions indicate the possibility of a Cat 4 or 5.

Keep in mind that errors in forecast track and intensity can be large 4 to 5 days out. Still, all signs today point toward a major hurricane near the Gulf coast by Tuesday.
