There's another twist in the marathon recount and challenges of Minnesota's U.S. Senate election.

Republican Sen. Norm Coleman sent a letter Saturday to Democrat Al Franken asking him to join in asking for an examination of some 12,000 votes to make sure they weren't wrongly excluded from results of the November election.

A three-judge panel on Friday denied an attempt by Coleman to have a new inspection of ballots for evidence that they may have been wrongly rejected or improperly counted.

A recount ended with Franken leading the incumbent by 225 votes.

The panel of judges starts hearing arguments Monday on Coleman's lawsuit challenging the recount.
