The governor's proposed budget delivers a double hit to Minnesota's higher education systems.
While the proposal cuts higher education spending by about 8 percent from the last budget cycle, the state would impose caps on tuition hikes at the University of Minnesota and schools in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system.
At the same time, colleges that have endowments have seen them shrink under the market plunge of the past 6 months.
University of Minnesota President Robert Bruininks and MnSCU Chancellor James McCormick join MPR's Gary Eichten to discuss their financial realities.
