Fire weather

MNDOT traffic cam at Highway 169 and Old Shakopee Road is smudged with smoke from nearby brush fire this afternoon.

We saw this one coming.

Our desert dry air mass and lack of significant precip for April has created a tinder box in Minnesota and the Upper Midwest.

As many as 30 states are under a Fire Weather Watch, including much of our region. Various other warnings such as a Red Flag Warning basically mean the combination of extremely low humidity and gusty winds and dry brush make for potential explosive fire growth this week.

Here's a link to the MNDOT traffic cam near Shakopee to track the nearby brush fire.

Be careful out there!
