Foggy morning, summery afternoon.

A little fog around the edges in Grand Marais this morning.

Call it a Sherlock Holmes morning. A dense pea soup fog blankets much of central and northern Minnesota today. It looks like the Scottish Moors with visibilities are less than 1/4 mile from Brainerd all the way up to Ely. The fog will burn off this morning improving visibilities by lunchtime.

Afternoon sun will feel nice today and help boost temperatures. It will fell like summer across much of the state, with highs making the low 80s in the south.

I'm still watching with amazement this quirky cut-off low for the weekend. The forecast models seem to have agreed on a hit and run scenario. The upper low gets just close enough to us Friday night to bring a shot of light showers, and then dashes back to the west bringing high pressure and sunshine by Sunday. It appears we could warm nicely to near 80 by Sunday afternoon.

The upper ridge of fair weather looks to linger through next week. I'm still looking for that first strong September cold front and the first shot of fall-like weather. There are signs that may occur around the 22nd or 23rd of September.

Stay tuned, and enjoy the beautiful weekend forecast!
