Our upper level "cut-off" low is making a move on Minnesota today. Scattered showers are breaking out, and will be hit or miss with about 20% to 30% coverage this evening. If you're headed out to that high school football game bring an umbrella tonight. Some areas in the metro may escape the showers. The best chance for locally heavy downpours, lightning and thunder and some hail cores appears to be west of the metro from St. Cloud, Willmar, Redwood Falls and Hutchinson into the western and northern metro suburbs.

It looks like the low will come close enough to keep a chance of showers in the forecast into Saturday morning. Skies should brighten later Saturday afternoon. Right now I would say there is a 90% chance the Gopher's home opener at TCF Bank Stadium will go off rain free. It should be a great night for football.
Sunday looks like the sunnier warmer day of the weekend. Summer will hang on with a high in the low 80s Sunday.
You can track the showers and thunderstorms here this tonight and into the weekend. They will be scattered, but some will produce locally heavy tropical downpours.
