Willie Murphy refuses to be pigeonholed

Willie Murphy
Willie Murphy says he's been performing since he was three. For the last few decades he was known as an r and b musician, but he hopes his new double album will highlight his talents stretch far across musical boundaries.

Minneapolis rhythm and blues living legend Willie Murphy has a new double CD coming out today.

Had he not broken his arm, he would be playing a gig to mark the release. The arm is healing quickly and his voice is working just fine.

Murphy told MPR's Euan Kerr that the set's two disks -- one called "A Shot of Love in a Time of Need" and the other titled "Autobiographical Notes" -- are each quite different.
