The season's first major winter storm is right on schedule so far today.

Twin Cities doppler radar shows "bright banding" indicating heavier snowfall rates moving north into the metro.
Bands of snow, some moderate to heavy, are moving north from Iowa this afternoon. So far, snowfall totals of 2" to 3" are reported in southwest and south central Minnesota through 4pm.

About an inch has fallen in the Twin Cities, but increasing snowfall rates are contributing to a slow and slippery rush hour in the metro.
The storm is still expected to reach peak intensity tonight and Wednesday morning. As winds increase tonight, blizzard conditions will develop south of the metro.
It appears 5" to 9" of snowfall is possible for the Twin Cities by late Wednesday, with 6" to 12" for southern Minnesota.
