Radio personality Dark Star is leaving WCCO-AM after 25 years with the station, most recently as the late-night host of "Sports Night with Dark Star."
Star, whose real name is George Chapple, accepted a buyout Tuesday. He tells the Star Tribune of Minneapolis that management's offer was more generous than he expected.
Star arrived in the Twin Cities in 1980 and worked as a substitute host at KSTP and handicapped horses for the St. Paul Pioneer Press before landing a job filing horse-racing reports from Canterbury Park for WCCO in 1986.
WCCO Program Director Wendy Paulson tells the Pioneer Press that local folks will be filling the newly vacated 9 p.m.-1 a.m. slot while the station searches for Star's replacement.
