Minnesota senators who oversee utilities and communications are taking up the confirmation of a former colleague on Tuesday.
Former state Sen. Betsy Wergin has served on the Public Utilities Commission for nearly two years without a Senate vote on her appointment.
The Republican from Princeton was in her second Senate term when Gov. Tim Pawlenty tapped her for the utilities post in July 2008. Wergin resigned from the Senate, prompting a special election narrowly won by Democrat Lisa Fobbe.
Wergin's confirmation is on the agenda of a Senate committee for energy, utilities, technology and communications. The Public Utilities Commission regulates utilities and telephone companies.
