North Minneapolis tornado cleanup efforts, by the numbers

Two days after a tornado struck north Minneapolis, thousands are without power as the city finishes assessing damage to property and finding shelter for those whose homes are uninhabitable.

Xcel Energy:

• 7000 customers still without power

• 200+ power poles damaged

Centerpoint Energy:

• More than 100 gas leaks fixed

Minneapolis Park Board:

• More than 2,000 trees in parks and on boulevards damaged

• 1,500 trees will be replanted this fall

Hennepin County, City of Minneapolis:

• 535 people receiving assistance through the Assistance Center at the Armory

• 80 percent of those homeless seeking shelter are renters

Damages:

• City's damage estimate is still at $166 million

• At least 500 buildings sustained significant damage

• 116 buildings are unsafe for occupation

• 35 deemed unsafe for habitation after two-thirds of damage areas was inspected

• 1,819 buildings sustained significant damage. Significant means the repairs will require permits

• 958 buildings have 'masts down' - masts are the pipes full of wires that extend from a building to the power pole. Xcel officials say if these are damaged, they cannot restore power. They must be fixed by licensed electrician first.

• At least 10 properties will probably have to be torn down
