Charles Muscoplat, president of UMore Development LLC, tells the Pioneer Press why finalizing its 40-year agreement for aggregate mining on the University of Minnesota's UMore Park site in Rosemount and Empire Township is such a big deal:
"This is a big step. We can start making money. It's a big commercial opportunity for the university. It's a big transaction. It will reclaim the land."
The mining should take up about a third of the site's 5,000 acres, which should also house a sustainable community of up to 30,000 people over the next three decades.
The project should be operating by next spring and should generate $3 million to $5 million a year for the U through sales of sand and gravel, Muscoplat told the paper.
