Officer who fatally shot woman on I-394 identified

The Golden Valley Police officer who fatally shot a woman on Interstate 394 last Thursday has been identified.

Golden Valley Police said Robert Zarrett has been with the department since May 1998 and is a patrol officer assigned to street shift.

In a statement, the department said there are no open internal investigations or complaints against Zarrett.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's office is investigating the incident, which left 58-year-old Katherine Marie Gordon dead.

Golden Valley Police say an officer attempted to stop Gordon's vehicle on Sept. 22. When the Altadena, Calif., woman eventually pulled over, the officer reported seeing a gun in her hand, and he shot her.

Gordon died on the scene of the incident of multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner.

Few other details have been released about what happened. The Hennepin County Sheriff's office has declined to comment on the case, citing the ongoing investigation.
