Defending the teaching of climate change in schools

At an event Monday night at the University of Minnesota's Humphrey School of Public Affairs, explorer Will Steger and Eugenie Scott, executive director of the National Center for Science Education, discussed teachers coming under fire for teaching global warming and other climate change concepts.

Scott has headed the group for a quarter century and it has primarily focused during those years on defending the teaching of another political topic - evolution - in the classroom. But in recent years, the group has noticed teachers complaining that they were coming under fire for teaching global warming. So Scott said her group expanded its mission this year to also include defending the teaching of climate change in the classroom.
