Fatal crash snarls morning rush on I-494
Authorities are investigating a fatal crash on 494 near Interstate 35W in Bloomington Monday morning.
The crash happened about 5 a.m., and involved a tractor-trailer and several other vehicles, according to state patrol spokesman Eric Roeske.
Westbound 494 is closed from Penn to France avenues, he said. "We are advising motorists to avoid that area completely, and plan for delays on other alternate routes as well this morning."
Roeske said at least one person died in the crash, and others may be injured. He said that accident reconstruction experts are on the scene.
The westbound side of I-494 could be closed for much of the rest of the morning rush hour. Authorities may reopen one lane of the freeway later, but say delays will continue.
