Man charged after shooting at police

The Hennepin County Attorney's Office Friday charged the man who exchanged gunfire with officers during a foot chase Wednesday night.

The criminal complaint says David Embaye, 22, fired a handgun at Minneapolis police officers, who returned fire. After a struggle, police were able to arrest LaEmbaye. They discovered he was shot three times. He was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center and was being treated under guard.

The officers involved in the shooting have been identified as Walter Alvarado, Omar Foulkes and Brandon Kitzerow. They remain on standard paid leave as police investigate.

The Minneapolis police department says all three officers have received recognition for their work. Both Alvarado and Kitzerow have been awarded medals of commendation. All three began their Minneapolis careers as community service officers.

Embaye was charged with three felony assault counts. He also was charged with illegal possession of a gun.
