Henn. Co. Commissioner Dorfman will not seek re-election

Hennepin County Commissioner Gail Dorfman will not run for re-election when her term ends next year.

Dorfman says she's ready for a change of pace. She's served on the county board for 14 years and says she's tired of jumping quickly from issue to issue.

She said she's also noticed a troubling change in the tone of political discussions over the years.

"The level and tone of civic discourse has changed considerably. And it's much more mean-spirited," she said. "Those were the two reasons that I thought I would try something else."

A member of the Metropolitan Council's advisory committee for the Southwest light rail project, Dorfman said she's frustrated that planning for the line from Minneapolis to Eden Prairie has reached an impasse.

Dorfman said she'll continue to pursue her passion of ending homelessness after she leaves office.
