A book and documentary due out this summer will recount the Sea Wing tragedy, in which 98 people died in 1890 when the ship flipped over on Lake Pepin.
A Rochester Post-Bulletin report says the documentary makers are both history lovers. They say they want to raise awareness about the ill-fated ship that has come to be known as Minnesota's Titanic.
Fred Johnson of Inver Grove Heights and Ben Threinen of Lake City are producing the 30-minute documentary. Johnson is also updating his 1986 book about the Sea Wing. The book and movie are expected to come out a few weeks before July 13, the 124th anniversary of the disaster.
Threinen says his goal is to help bring the little-known tragedy to life.
