Officer's accused killer due in court Monday
The initial court appearance for the man charged with shooting and killing a Mendota Heights police officer last Wednesday has been tentatively set for Monday.
The Dakota County Attorney's Office has charged Brian Fitch Sr. with two counts of first-degree murder for shooting Officer Scott Patrick during a traffic stop. But that date could change if Fitch, who is in the hospital, is still being treated, prosecutors said.
Ramsey County prosecutors have charged Fitch with attempted first-degree murder for a shootout with police. Fitch was shot several times during the gunfight. His first court appearance there has been set for Aug. 13, though that could change based on Fitch's health.
