Shots were fired at another location, the 5800 block of west 99th Street, and the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities didn't say if he had fired at police, how many shots were fired or how many officers were involved.
The man wasn't identified, and no officers were hurt in the incident.
The shooting comes just two days after St. Paul police shot and killed a 24-year-old man. Police say he drove at officers with his SUV when they responded to a call about death threats.
