In warmer climate, a bid to preserve trees threatened by emerald ash borer

This black ash tree in the Chippewa National Forest was killed on purpose, to simulate an emerald ash borer attack. Researchers "girdled" thousands of trees by slicing deep into their bark with a long knife to disconnect the tops of the trees from their root systems.
