Counter Stories: Transgender pride
Counter Stories is celebrating Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month with special guest Andrea Jenkins. Andrea, a transgender activist, is the Grand Marshal for Twin Cities Pride.
With Caitlyn Jenner's very public unveiling and TV shows like "Orange is the New Black" and "Transparent," the transgender community's profile is on the rise.
But Andrea says transgender people of color still face desperate poverty, the near constant threat of violence and transphobia in their own communities.
Andrea also fills us in on her latest effort to raise the profile of transgender voices and experiences through the Transgender Oral History Project at the University of Minnesota.
