The first large storm of the winter is blanketing North America northward from the Gulf of Mexico in this week's Earth selfie.

The skies clear southward through Mexico to the Yucatan Peninsula.

But in the southern hemisphere, a massive storm system swirls in the far southern Pacific Ocean, west of South America.
