Red River Valley winter storm
Low pressure spins from South Dakota's Black Hills toward northwest Minnesota today.
This one has enough moisture and cold air to crank out some decent snowfall totals. Yes, it will be a very white Christmas across the northern Red River Valley and northwest Minnesota towns like Hallock, Roseau, Warroad and Baudette. Go Rams?
Metro mix
Further south it's mild enough for a rain to wintry mix once again tonight into Wednesday morning as the cold front slides through. Rain-sleet-freezing drizzle-snow all possible as temperatures hover near the freezing mark. Skies look dry with favorable travel conditions as we approach Christmas Eve.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's North American Mesoscale Forecast System model feeds in just enough sub-freezing air to crank out a few inches of accumulating snow for the metro Wednesday. But it is the outlier.
NOAA's Global Forecast System leans more heavily on totals under an inch. Seems reasonable to me, but worth watching. Just one of three potential snow chances in the next week.
Where's winter?
The incredible run of December warmth continues out east. The Boston area town of Worcester is getting ready to shatter a long standing record for latest snowfall on record.
