Christmas night snow blanket
Merry Christmas from the Huttner Weather Lab!
It's been a warm December, but Christmas weekend across Minnesota finally brings colder, more seasonable temperatures. And some snow. The next wave of moisture spreads north and east across Minnesota Christmas Day. Look for snow to be on the increase from southwest to northeast during the afternoon hours. By later Christmas night, a good swath of steady snow should cover most of central and southern Minnesota including the Twin Cities. I'm not fully buying into the higher NWS totals below yet, but at least a couple of inches is certainly a high possibility by Saturday morning.
Here's our inbound landscape whitener. Moist air rides over the colder dome across Minnesota. A fairly substantial swath of snow breaks out. Finally, a properly white Minnesota winter landscape looks almost certain.
The steadiest snow falls late Christmas night into Saturday morning. Plan accordingly for some slick roads and travel issues.
