Snow edges north, big metro gradient likely

Our Upper Midwest winter storm is edging slowly north tonight.

Late trends suggest a big metro snowfall gradient from the northwest metro to the southeast. This fits with the previous notions of the storm track, with the differences in snowfall of 5" or more from opposite corners of the metro. Rogers in the northwest metro will see half as much snow as Red Wing in the far southeast metro.

The 18Z HopWRF run suggests a range of 2" to 3" far northwest metro, to as much as 7"to 8" far southeast metro by 6 a.m. on Tuesday.

The Twin Cities NWS also sees big snowfall ranges across the metro.

Regardless of final snowfall totals, slick roads will be the rule from late tonight night into Tuesday morning.
