The man in a wheelchair killed by a Blue Line light rail train was 61-year-old Daniel Wease, authorities said Tuesday. He lived in a group home about one block away from the accident.
Wease was struck by a train at 32nd Street and Hiawatha Avenue in south Minneapolis just before 6 p.m. on Sunday. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner called the death an accident.
Paramedics took Wease to the Hennepin County Medical Center where he later died. Metro Transit spokesperson Howie Padilla said the man was not alone at the time he was injured, but questions about the accident remain.
"Exactly how that wheelchair came to be in the position where it was close enough to the tracks in order to be struck at that moment is one of the things that investigators are going to be looking into, or actually, already are looking into," Padilla said.
