"At some point during entry, officers encountered a male subject, and weapons or a weapon were used," he said. "The male subject was injured, and an officer sustained a non-life threatening injury."

Ernster says both were taken to Region's Hospital, where the man was pronounced dead.

The officer — whose name is not being immediately released — suffered an arm injury.

Because of the BCA's role in the incident, Ernster says, the St. Paul Police Department is leading the investigation.

He says the Ramsey County Medical Examiner will identify the man and his exact cause of death.
