Stormy to steamy: Heat warning through Friday

On what may be the hottest day of the year for many Minnesotans, tens of thousands will endure our blistering heat wave without power and AC thanks to this morning's severe storms.

An excessive heat warning remains in effect through Friday across most of Minnesota. Heat index values will reach 100 to 115 late this afternoon across a big chunk of Minnesota.

Jungle dew points

Miami? Guam? Dew points hit 80 degrees at some southern Minnesota locations Wednesday afternoon. I saw a peak dew point of 77 degrees Wednesday evening at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Taking a walk outside felt like swimming -- without lakes.

Weekend relief

The heat and jungle-like humidity gradually ease this weekend. Saturday will still feel muggy and brings scattered thunderstorms. By Sunday, you'll notice the dew points mercifully dropping from the upper 60s into the upper 50s by Sunday night. Temperatures fall into the 80s into next week.
