Climate risk for insurers is increasing. Sea levels are rising and there is more water in the air, causing more major weather events.
"Along the East Coast of the U.S. we've experienced about a foot of sea level rise in the 20th century," said Rutgers climate scientist Bob Kopp.
Flood insurers are underwater trying to help homeowners recoup from damages. Yale Environment 360 reported that the National Flood Insurance Program is $25 billion in debt to the U.S. Treasury.
Minnesotans put money into that program, but coastal floods take the most money out.
