At an Aspen Ideas Festival event, three panelists tried to answer one question: has democracy run its course?

Political philosopher Michele Moody-Adams, historian Jack Rakove and Yascha Mounk, a young German-born man, discussed the value of participatory government, and how it can be renewed.

Moody-Adams of Columbia University is the author of a forthcoming book, "Renewing Democracy." Rakove, a Pulitzer Prize-winning historian, teaches at Stanford University about the vision of the nation's founders. Mounk directs the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change and teaches at Harvard.

The panel was moderated by Yoni Appelbaum, an historian and editor at The Atlantic. Recorded June 27 in Aspen, Colo.
