What to expect as ACA open enrollment begins

Affordable Care Act open enrollment season begins Wednesday.

The Trump administration has instituted several changes to ACA implementation, including cutting payments to insurers that help millions of lower-income Americans afford coverage — which has driven up premiums — and slashing advertising and outreach budgets.

Federal health officials have not released projections for the number of people who will be covered by the law in 2018, but some experts expect the number will be lower than in years past.

MPR News host Kerri Miller spoke to Stephani Becker, senior policy specialist at the Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law, about what these changes mean for consumers shopping for an insurance plan.
