Milder through tomorrow, but spring is reluctant this year

Reluctant Spring

This is like the March of my youth in Minnesota. Snow seemed to linger on lawns forever. Some years where the tree buds waited until early May to open in earnest. I walked two miles to school, uphill both ways, with snow drifts up to my waist.

Seriously, this spring is taking its sweet time. But it's interesting to note March 2018 is fairly "average" so far in the Twin Cities. It seems frigid, but temperatures are actually running nearly average (+0.5 degrees)  this month at MSP Airport.

Snowfall has been 5.1", that's 4" below average. So, are we just growing soft?

March has been warmer than average in Minnesota for the past 3 years. You have to go back 4 years to get a colder than average March. March 2014 was a duzy with temperatures 7.3 degrees colder than average.

Milder through tomorrow

Minnesota enjoys two milder days this week. Sunshine increases across Minnesota this afternoon. Highs make the upper 40s today with low 50s tomorrow. Then cooler breezes start to blow once again. Easter weekend looks downright cold.

Friday night snow chance?

Another Friday night snow chance arrives this week. Again, there are model differences in outcome. The Canadian model presents a middle of the road solution. A quick hitting low zipping through with a brief shot of rain and snow.

Long range: Cooler than average?

I'm still seeing model differences on temperature trends over the next two weeks. Most solutions look much colder than average through the next 14 days.

There are some signs temperatures will warm the second week of April.

Hang in there.
