Timing is everything in life and weather. A coating of snow at 3 a.m. Sunday morning? No big deal. Half an inch of snow on untreated roads during rush hour on a Wednesday? Call out the National Guard.

I don't think it will get that serious Wednesday afternoon, but some light snow is likely to push across Minnesota as the arctic front passes south.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's NAM 3 km model is among the more aggressive solutions cranking out a band of snow over the Twin Cities just in time for evening rush hours Wednesday.

We enjoy a few sunny peeks today across southern Minnesota. As the cold air pushes in Thursday and Friday sunshine will become more abundant. It's a winter trade-off in Minnesota. Cold air is usually dry and sunny.

Temperatures bottom out near zero Friday morning, then moderate this weekend into next week. Highs push into the 30s next week.

Westerly wind flow next week offers the promise of milder air.

NOAA's longer-range outlooks suggest milder-than-average temperatures for weeks three and four across a good chunk of the United States.
