Night of the tornado; EF-3 twister tears up Wisconsin town

National Weather Service finds two tornadoes from Tuesday night.

At least two tornadoes touched down Tuesday night just east of the Twin Cities.

A powerful EF-3 tornado with 150 mph winds tore through Elk Mound and Wheaton, Wis., north of Eau Claire around 7:50 p.m. Tuesday night. The twister caused extensive damage to buildings and at least one home.

Survey teams with the Twin Cities National Weather Service found evidence of EF-3 damage and winds of 150 mph.

Lake City tornado

A second tornado tore through Lake City, Minn., along Lake Pepin on the Mississippi River around 8 p.m. The National Weather Service from La Crosse, Wis., completed the storm survey today. The tornado produced 80 mph winds and was on the ground for a little over a mile.

Cooler breezes

The air mass behind our cool front is refreshingly cool. Highs in the 60s rule for the next few days. Saturday looks like the coolest day with highs in the 50s across northern Minnesota and barely 60 in the Twin Cities. Monday looks warmer.
