Last Tuesday marked a significant shift in American politics. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the launch of a formal impeachment inquiry after months of pressure from some of her Democratic colleagues.
The decision came in the wake of revelations that President Trump withheld military aid before calling the president of Ukraine and asking him to investigate former vice president Joe Biden and his son. The whistleblower complaint also alleges that records of the call were moved to a separate, more tightly secured system.
As the impeachment inquiry picks up steam, two guests join MPR News host Kerri Miller for a conversation about how the process works.

This week, the team launches a series on missing and murdered women from communities of color.
So far this year, 19 transgender people have been murdered in the U.S. The vast majority were black women. Minneapolis City Councilwoman Andrea Jenkins joins the team this week to discuss violence against black transgender women.

Activist, journalist and women's rights leader Gloria Steinem, who was Kerri Miller's "Talking Volumes" guest at the Fitzgerald Theater in 2016 to talk about her memoir, "My Life on the Road." The regional premiere of the play, "Gloria, A Life" opened Sept. 28 at the History Theatre in downtown St. Paul and runs until Oct. 20.
