Nurses have repeated exposure to the pain, crisis and suffering of their patients.

The documentary "Compassionate Nurses" examines the art of listening to patients and the challenge of avoiding "compassion fatigue" in a crucial health care profession.

It features Dr. Mary Jo Kreitzer, RN, founder and director of the Center for Spirituality and Healing at the University of Minnesota.

The documentary was produced by David Freudberg for the Humankind series, in association with WGBH/Boston.
