Milder week ahead; watching rain and snow chances

Highs in the 40s much of this week

Call it November Lite.

This week brings a milder start compared with last week. Minnesota rides the northern edge of a milder air mass this week. Highs in the 60s come as close as Nebraska Monday.

Highs make the 40s for the Twin Cities and southern Minnesota through Wednesday. In fact, highs could push 50 degrees in southern Minnesota and maybe the south metro Wednesday afternoon.

We hit a temperature speed bump Thursday and Friday. Next weekend looks like a fairly nice weekend for late November with some sun and highs in the 40s.

Rain and snow chances

There are two rain or snow chances across Minnesota this week. Monday night’s system looks light. Look for mostly light rain for the Twin Cities with snow north and east.

The best chance for an inch or two of snow favors Grand Rapids and nearby areas in northern Minnesota.

Rain or snow Wednesday night and Thursday

Most models favor a rain or snow system Wednesday night into Thursday. At this point, the bulk of solutions favor mostly rain for the Twin Cities and southern Minnesota, with a few inches of snow possible up north.

Here’s the Canadian model.

Quiet Thanksgiving week?

There have been a few model hiccups the past few days suggesting possible rain or snow around Thanksgiving. The last few model runs favor mainly dry weather on Thanksgiving. But the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s medium-range upper-air forecast maps suggest a possible system around Sunday, Dec. 1.

At this point, it might be warm enough for mostly rain.
