It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. And the big color this year in parts of southern Minnesota could be beige.
Snow cover varies greatly from south to north across Minnesota today. There are still solid 2 feet in the woods along the North Shore ridges. It’s closer to 2 inches in many fields of southern Minnesota.

White Christmas probabilities
A white Christmas is a lock across most of northern Minnesota this year. In fact, historical climatological probabilities show a 100 percent chance for at least 1 inch of snow on the ground for most of northern Minnesota.

The highest chances for a brown or beige Christmas favor southwest Minnesota historically.
And this year looks pretty similar to those long-term averages.
With highs above freezing for the next several days, I think we’re going to have plenty of bare ground across southern Minnesota. And the Twin Cities may be sporting a beige snow cover of 2 inches or less by Christmas Day.
Stay tuned.
