It’s on.
Temperatures already shot up to near 40 degrees in the Twin Cities Friday afternoon. I saw the mercury at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport peak at 39 degrees early Friday afternoon. The 39 degrees at the airport topped even the most optimistic model forecast temperature guidance Thursday by 3 degrees.

40s ahead this weekend
The mildest part of our inbound air mass arrives this weekend. That leaves little doubt temperatures will make or exceed 40 degrees this weekend in the Twin Cities and much of southern Minnesota.

Peak warmth Sunday
The peak of this current warming trend arrives Sunday afternoon. Forecast model output has finally caught on to highs in the mid-40s across southern Minnesota by Sunday afternoon. They may be golfing in Des Moines, Iowa, Sunday afternoon.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see a 50-degree temperature somewhere in southern Minnesota Sunday afternoon.
Good holiday travel weather
With highs in the 30s through Christmas Day, and no big storms in sight yet holiday travel weather looks good around the Upper Midwest.
