There’s some short and sweet weather news ahead for Christmas holiday travel. 

The overall weather picture looks good for travel in the Upper Midwest through Christmas Day. 

Daytime highs in the 30s and 40s rule most of Minnesota into the middle of next week. That means generally good road conditions for holiday travel. Little or no snowfall is in the forecast through Christmas. There is little or no snow cover across most of Iowa and southern Wisconsin. If you’re looking for deep snow, go north.

Christmas will be plenty white up north. But it looks like we’ll melt about an inch a day across southern Minnesota. Lawns and fields will reemerge int he next week across southern Minnesota. 

Here are the historical chances for a white Christmas across Minnesota.

Watch for occasional freezing fog at night as snow begins to melt. That could leave an icy coating on some roads late at night and early in the morning.
