Yacht brings AI-infused album to First Avenue on Tuesday

Yacht brings their latest record to First Avenue in Minneapolis Tuesday — an album composed with the help of artificial intelligence.

The band told Billboard that they fed their back catalog of more than 80 songs — plus a library of lyrics they liked — into machine learning models as source material. They used what came out to build songs, but as band member Jona Bechtolt explained, the music was still a challenge to learn.

"Since these models don’t consider the human body, a lot of it was very difficult to play and it would take forever to learn two bars of music which was super frustrating at times,” he said.
