Traveling south this weekend? Expect a pile of snow and difficult driving conditions if you’re traveling to Kansas City, Des Moines, Madison, Milwaukee or Chicago.
An active storm track runs just south of Minnesota this weekend. Winter storm warnings are up for parts of seven states from Kansas to Michigan.

A band of ice, sleet, and snow runs along the storm zone this weekend.
Two waves bring wintry weather. One strikes through Saturday morning. A second wave brings more snow Saturday afternoon and evening. There will be some sleet and ice mixed in.
Here’s the weekend snowfall assessment from the Des Moines NWS office.

And here’s the view from the Milwaukee NWS.
Southern Minnesota and the Twin Cities will see a few snow flurries through Saturday. A weak system could bring a dusting of light snow late Sunday into Monday, but accumulations should be less than an inch in most areas.
