Another January thaw arrives Wednesday; no big storms in sight

Highs in the 30s last into the weekend

Thermometers are heading higher across Minnesota this week.

Southerly winds blow Tuesday. In fact, it’s going to get gusty out there. Wind gusts top 30 mph in southwestern Minnesota again Tuesday afternoon and night.

That south wind feels chilly Tuesday. But it also pumps in milder air by Wednesday. Highs reach the 30s across most of Minnesota Wednesday.

Extended January thaw

We’ve already logged eight days at or above freezing in the Twin Cities this January. We’re going to tack on a few more this week. Highs in the 30s arrive Wednesday and rule through next weekend.

Get used to the milder than average weather. The medium-range forecast maps suggest highs in the upper 20s or 30s may predominate the rest of January and extend into early February.
