Occasional flakes continue; January to finish 5 degrees warmer than average?

Occasional light snow causing a few slick streets

It’s been an occasional snow globe around southern Minnesota and Wisconsin lately.

Minnesota is riding the northern edge of a low-pressure system in Missouri. Occasional snow showers continue to rotate around the low through Friday. The system pulls off into the Great Lakes and drier high pressure builds in by Saturday. NOAA’s GFS model captures the system evolution.

Light accumulations

I picked up about an inch of snow here at the Weather Lab in Victoria over the past 24 hours. But a few locations in the east Twin Cities metro area, southeast Minnesota and western Wisconsin got 2 inches or more.

There are still signs of somewhat colder air in early February. But the medium-range models backed-off the intensity of that cold today.

Stay tuned.
