We’re moving through the first week of June in Minnesota.

We started this week much warmer than average with our first two 90-degree days of the year in the Twin Cities. Now we enjoy a slightly cooler but still warmer than average air mass. The average high and low in the Twin Cities today are 74 and 54. The averages for Duluth are 67 and 45 degrees.

Dew points have dropped dramatically into the comfortable 40s and 50s across Minnesota. You can see how the tropical summery air mass we felt early this week has been shoved into southeast Iowa, Missouri, and Illinois.

Highs in the 80s south and 70s north will be the rule across Minnesota for the next several days.

Slight severe risk Thursday

Another cool front drops south into Minnesota Thursday night. That will trigger a few scattered thunderstorms across southern Minnesota.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has painted a slight risk for severe storms across Southern Minnesota late Thursday and Thursday night.

Most forecast models suggest thunderstorms developing late Thursday in southwest Minnesota. The most favorable timing for storms in the Twin Cities appears to be overnight into early Friday morning.

That timing may change based on Thursday’s forecast model runs.

Stay tuned.
