The Summer of 2020 is off and running.

Temperatures are soaring again today across Minnesota. Highs in the 90s cover much of Minnesota. Temperatures and heat index values will 95 to 100 degrees along the thermal ridge across western Minnesota through Wednesday.

Hot start to summer

Today is the 4th day this year of 90-degree heat in the Twin Cities. That ties last year’s total for 90-degree days at 4.

We’ll add another 90-degree day tomorrow, and we may challenge 90 degrees again Thursday. That would mean 5 to 6 days of 90-degree heat by June 18.

The annual (30-year) average for 90-degree days is 11 days. We’re currently on pace for around 15 to 20 days of 90-degree heat this summer.

Cool front Thursday

A cool front will push slowly through Minnesota Thursday. The front will trigger scattered showers and thunderstorms. NOAA’s NAM 3 km model paints a line of potentially feisty thunderstorms moving across Minnesota Thursday afternoon and evening.
