Severe thunderstorm watch for northern Minnesota until 2 am

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for most of northern Minnesota until 2 am Tuesday.

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of Northern Minnesota

* Effective this Monday night and Tuesday morning from 615 PM until 200 AM CDT.

* Primary threats include... Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph likely Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 2 inches in diameter possible A tornado or two possible

SUMMARY...Thunderstorms are expected to intensify early this evening over northwest Minnesota and spread eastward. Damaging winds appear to be the main threat, although hail and a tornado or two are also possible with the more intense activity.

A July cold front tracks across Minnesota Tuesday.

The system triggers scattered thunderstorms and there is a risk for a few severe storms. The highest risk (enhanced) is across northwest and central Minnesota. The risk for severe storms in the Twin Cities is lower.

As I posted on timing earlier today, it still looks like the Twin Cities could see a few storms in the hours surrounding midnight.
