New crowdfunding platform aims to boost minority, LGBTQ entrepreneurs
Since George Floyd's death in Minneapolis, there have been widespread calls to support Black and minority-owned businesses across the state. Those calls reflect a growing awareness around disparities in business ownership: According to census data, only about 4 percent of Minnesota’s small business owners are Black.
Twin Cities restaurateur Jared Brewington is working on a new crowdfunding platform for people of color and LGBTQ entrepreneurs. MPR News host Cathy Wurzer talked with Brewington about that effort, and his own experience as a Black business owner in Minnesota.
